Women's Wellness Conference 2015

This years Women’s Wellness conference, hosted by David Wolfe and Longevity Warehouse, was really a sight to see. Down in Costa Mesa, California, leaders, authors, artisans and doctors got together to talk about the leading edge work that is coming out to help women heal our planet, our bodies and each other in progressive and holistic ways. The following list is comprised of just a few favorites who had an impact on my experience. We learned about real nutritional tips to pay attention to from Dr. Alan Christianson and Dr. Sara Gottfried, who have seen thousands of patients and look at what produces results, not just what they were taught to say in medical school.  Then we heard from some of the most renowned spiritual practitioners and speakers, Caroline Myss and Marianne Williamson, who know that health first starts with the spirit and a commitment to living in love. Finally, we ingested products from makers and educators, Nadine Artemis and Bethanne Wanamaker, that add a valuable and nutritional boost to our daily routines.

1. The Adrenal Reset Diet by Alan Christianson

Alan Christianson, who specializes in helping people find peace with their cortisol, metabolism, obesity, and thyroid, stands in his own category of how to heal these issues. He is not preaching that we work out more and eat less, in fact he believes that doing this can make the situation even worse. When we starve the body it sends signals that we are entering “famine preparation mode” and our body begins to store fat. He recommends creating supportive lifestyle habits like reducing stress, timing your food (hint, eat carbs at the end of the day), limiting bright light at night, and getting a healthy dose of shut eye are some of his tips to help the body regulate and balance itself out.

2. Chocolate Gold by Edible Goddess

What does superfood heaven taste like? Chocolate gold. A combination of heirloom raw chocolate, raw honey, coconut oil, goji berry extract, vanilla bean, lucuma berry, shilajit extract, and sea salt, this creamy and delicious dessert is delightful and packed with nutrition. At the conference, I was running low on energy so I treated myself to some gold, but truly felt nourished after eating it. I would say be mindful with how much you are using (as it does have sugar), so treat this it like medicine and with respect, but reap the benefits of immense energy. Don’t guzzle it down by the spoonful, like I did. With a full day of talks, interviews, exchanges, dancing, writing and more, this chocolate gold kept me on my game the entire time.

3. The Hormone Reset Diet by Dr. Sara Gottfried

For many of our health frustrations, hormone imbalance may be the root of our problems. Harvard educated, Sara Gottfried, targets seven different hormones and seven different foods to eliminate in order to reset them; she advises us to go meatless (estrogen), sugar free (insulin), fruitless (leptin), caffeine free (cortisol), grain free (thyroid), dairy free (growth hormone), and toxin free (testosterone). This new approach to resetting the hormones allows us to detox of some of the foods that may have been causing our bodies grief, leading us to some answers and results.

4. A Return to Love by Marianne Williamson

Even though this book was published in 1996, its key principles are timeless and bear repeating. Marianne who is a beloved writer, speaker and spiritual leader uses the book “A Course in Miracles” to teach us all how to open our hearts to the spiritual path. She shares this idea that you are either living in fear or love and you cannot live in both at the same time.  When we were born we had a natural tendency to focus on love. Many of us reach a certain age where we loose the magic because we were taught to focus on things like fear, lack, competition and separation. She says the spiritual journey is the path of letting go of fear and learning to love. That is all that we are here for and all that matters, everything else is an illusion. Love can never be destroyed, it can only be covered over. All of the powerful teachings need to be taken to heart, especially with our fragile planet just begging for more people to come from a place of love.

5. Ozonated Gum Gel by Living Libations

Nadine Artemis never ceases to amaze me with her dedication to science, nature and purity. Artemis found out through the work of Nikola Tesla, brilliant visionary who was granted over three hundred patents, the power of ozone therapy. “Ozone (O3) is a molecule with three oxygen atoms and is naturally antifugal, antibacterial, and antiviral.” Ozone has found its way into the dental industry as ozone gas and ozone-infused water. We now have a portable one that we can apply to our own mouth and it contains the healing ozonized organic seabuckthorn, jojoba, clove, tea tree, peppermint, rose otto, oregano, cinnamon, and thyme linalool. For more information check out Nadine’s Book, Holistic Dental Care.

6.  Anatomy of the Spirit by Dr. Caroline Myss

“Stick with the mystics”, are some of the first words I heard from medical intuitive, Dr. Carolyn Myss. She didn’t have a slide show or anything fancy, but instead had a large pad of paper and a pencil. On it, she drew a house with seven levels. The room giggled, but later became silent as she walked us through this house, a metaphor for spiritual consciousness. "So many people are stuck on the bottom floor", she says, or the floor of war. All they can think about is survival and a ton of drama. As we move up and up, we reach the higher levels where mystical grace starts to set in and we begin working with the divine. Energy holds weight and can literally keep the body from healing. In order to heal we have to recall the lost language of the soul and become wickedly courageous. She’s a tough cookie, who teaches us how to attain that spiritual maturity and live on the top floor of that house.
